California, known for its stunning landscapes and vibrant cities, is also home to a variety of addiction treatment programs aimed at helping individuals overcome substance abuse. Whether you or a loved one are grappling with addiction, it’s crucial to understand the range of addiction treatment options available both here at Golden Gate Recovery and throughout the region.
Aftercare is a vital step in the treatment process. The purpose of aftercare is to blend the transition from an inpatient stay back to a regular life. During this phase, clients continue to receive clinical services while learning how to live life again in a safe and supportive environment.
Treating addiction and mental health takes time and commitment. Our professionally trained staff is ready to support you along the way. Golden Gate Recovery’s team will work with you each step of the way toward long-lasting recovery. Our treatment program offers tailored treatment plans based on individual needs and goals.
Golden Gate Recovery provides partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) as an aftercare option for men in early recovery. Our professionally staffed and comprehensive treatment program includes individual, group, and family counseling sessions, experiential therapy, high structure, (regularly scheduled activities), high accountability (regular drug and alcohol testing), community involvement, and ongoing support to the clients. We offer the following services:
Our tailored and compassionate treatment program focuses on each individual’s needs and goals. Our experienced team of professionals oversees the recovery process, providing guidance, education, and support to help our clients reach what matters most. With group outings, accountability tools, and an effective 12-step program, we are with you every step of the way.
While a common assumption is that the first step to recovery is to enter into a rehab or treatment program, that is not the case. The first step towards recovery is detoxification.
Detox is the process of eliminating harmful substances from the body, allowing both the body and the brain to start the healing process. Detox is important because without removing those harmful substances, treatment can not truly begin.
While not mandatory, it is highly recommended that the detox process be done at a facility where the person doing detox can be cared for and monitored by trained medical professionals. This can be done at either a medical facility, a dedicated detox center, or a treatment center that also offers detox services. In some instances, self-detox can be dangerous, and life-threatening, and increase the risk of relapse.
Detox programs typically involve medical assessments, 24/7 monitoring, and, when necessary, medications to alleviate withdrawal symptoms, making the process as comfortable and as safe as possible. The duration of detox varies depending on the substance and the individual’s unique circumstances.
Once detox has been completed, the treatment process can begin. In California, there are several treatment options available based on each person and their needs.
It’s important to remember that addiction treatment is not a “one-size-fits-all” program. Each person undergoes evaluations and meets with treatment professionals to get a treatment plan designed specifically for them. Below are some of the treatment programs that we offer at Golden Gate Recovery:
Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) provide an intermediate level of care between inpatient and outpatient treatment. PHPs offer the flexibility and freedom to participate in intensive therapeutic interventions during the day, while also allowing the person to return home to their normal life in the evening.
Partial Hospitalization Programs are ideal for those who either do not require 24/7 monitoring or who are unable to give up daily responsibilities to enter into an inpatient program but still need a level of support higher than what is available in a standard outpatient program.
Individuals participating in a Partial Hospitalization Program will attend various therapy sessions including individual and group therapy. They will also participate in various holistic therapies that we offer such as meditation and yoga. For those who need it, medication management is also available to those participating in a PHP.
Intensive Outpatient Programs also allow for the flexibility and freedom of coming to the facility for treatment while also allowing those in treatment to meet their daily responsibilities. While IOPs don’t offer everything that a PHP does, they do offer more support than a standard outpatient program. Intensive Outpatient Programs are ideal for those who require a step-down from a Partial Hospitalization Program or even inpatient treatment, or for those who have commitments such as work or family.
An IOP typically involves sessions several days a week where the individual will participate in various therapy and counseling sessions in addition to educational components. Participants learn coping skills, and relapse prevention strategies, and receive ongoing support from both professionals and peers.
Outpatient treatment is a less intensive option suitable for individuals with a stable support system and a lower risk of relapse. Like both intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization, standard outpatient treatment allows individuals to attend therapy sessions while continuing with their daily activities.
Outpatient programs offer flexibility in scheduling, allowing participants to attend therapy sessions at their convenience. This flexibility is beneficial for those who need ongoing support but can maintain their commitment to treatment while managing other responsibilities.
In addition to the various treatment programs that we offer at Golden Gate Recovery, we also offer sober living for those in need. We believe in providing our clients with 24/7 care and accountability.
Sober living facilities provide a transitional and supportive living environment for individuals who have completed more intensive treatment programs or need a structured environment to support their recovery.
We work closely with our affiliated Sober Living homes to provide care and accountability around the clock. Each day our team is provided with updates on how each client is progressing outside of the daily treatment program.
Each house has a live-in house manager and each client is expected to adhere to the rules of the house. Clients can form a bond with their peers and take this next step together. There is a level of “social proof” that occurs when clients who are closer to graduation set a positive example for the newer clients. The house manager provides accountability with daily alcohol/drug testing daily.
Unfortunately, not everyone has a safe and supportive home to return to once treatment has been completed. Sober living homes offer a substance-free living space and a community of peers working towards similar goals.
Sober living homes often come with “house rules” that residents are required to abide by at all times in order to live in the home or at the facility. They are often also required to attend support group meetings and contribute to the maintenance of the home, fostering a sense of responsibility and shared commitment to recovery.

At Golden Gate Recovery, therapy plays a central role in addiction treatment, addressing the underlying issues contributing to substance abuse and equipping individuals with coping mechanisms for a sober life. Below are some of the different therapy services that we offer:
Individual therapy is just what it sounds like. Therapy sessions are conducted in a one-on-one setting with a licensed therapist. Individual therapy allows individuals to explore personal challenges, traumas, and triggers contributing to their addiction. This allows the individual to gain insights, develop coping strategies, and work towards personal growth.
Group therapy provides a supportive and empathetic environment where individuals share their experiences, challenges, and successes with peers in recovery. Group sessions foster a sense of community and allow participants to learn from one another while receiving guidance from a trained therapist.
Involving the family in the recovery process is often crucial. Family therapy addresses the impact of addiction on familial relationships, helping to rebuild trust, improve communication, and establish a supportive network for long-term recovery.
CBT is one of the most effective and widely used forms of talk therapy when it comes to both substance abuse and mental health treatment. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is designed to identify and modify negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to substance abuse.
Once these underlying thoughts and behaviors have been identified, CBT equips individuals with practical tools to manage these triggers, cravings, and stressors, fostering long-term recovery.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a specialized form of cognitive-behavioral therapy initially developed to treat individuals with borderline personality disorder. However, it has proven highly effective in addressing substance abuse and addiction as well.
DBT emphasizes the synthesis of acceptance and change strategies, incorporating mindfulness techniques alongside behavioral interventions. One of its core principles is the recognition and acceptance of the dialectical tension between the need for change and the need for acceptance.
DBT can help those in treatment develop skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness.
Holistic therapy has gained popularity over the years both from those in treatment as well as treatment professionals. While it is often used to complement more traditional forms of treatment, some use it as their main form of treatment. At Golden Gate Recovery, we offer a variety of holistic therapy options including yoga, breathwork, hiking, mindful meditation, and expressive art.
We believe that holistic therapy provides several crucial benefits such as:
