Yoga

Yoga is a 5,000-year-old Hindu discipline that promotes physical and spiritual development through breathing, postures, and self-awareness. Yoga has been praised by celebrities and the medical community for its ability to reduce stress and promote physical well-being. There are more than 20 different types of yoga. Some classical forms of yoga focus on poses (asanas) that aid in relaxation and meditation.

Among many of the benefits that yoga has to offer, it also helps people recover from drug or alcohol addiction. While addiction recovery is a lifelong process, yoga offers lasting tools to grow spiritually and cope with life’s difficulties. Practicing yoga as holistic therapy will help you develop strength, flexibility, and endurance. From overcoming stress or dealing with fatigue, there is no end to the ways yoga can benefit your life.

Breathwork

Breathwork helps with:

  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Trauma & Post-TraumBreaatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Grief & Loss
  • Anger
  • Chronic Pain
  • Emotional effects of illness

Breathwork is a therapeutic technique that utilizes simple breathing exercises to lead one into a non-ordinary state of consciousness where unconsciousness and previously repressed thoughts and emotions can more easily rise from the surface for integration.

Practitioners of breathwork find that the act of focusing on one’s breathing has many positive effects. The practice brings about physiological change such as lowering blood pressure and heart rate, and emotional change such as helping with mental well-being. Breathing patterns are very personal, so what works for one person may not be right for another. Golden Gate Recovery guides clients through different breathing exercises, allowing them to try out different types to discover which works best for them.

Mindful Meditation

Meditation has become a popular practice in addiction treatment, with many people using it to quiet racing thoughts and bring about feelings of peace and improved focus. Today’s busy world often results in short attention spans and stressed-out emotions. With mindfulness meditation, you can gain the benefits of meditation in just a few minutes each day.

Golden Gate Recovery is a mindfulness meditation program that helps you out of addiction by offering guided meditations and music to help you focus on your recovery.

Expressive Art

Golden Gate Recovery offers a unique approach to addictions treatment; Expressive Arts Therapy. Expressive art therapy is self-discovering, verbal and visual. No artistic talent is required. This modality allows clients to express themselves through self-discovery of life experiences, as well as providing an opportunity to explore feelings that may be difficult to put into words.

Animal-Assisted Therapy

Animal-assisted therapy is a therapeutic intervention that incorporates our very own good girl! Osa, a three-year-old Corgi, is a resident here at Golden Gate Recovery and provides emotional support to everyone she meets. She sits in on groups, gives lots of kisses and snuggles, and loves butt scratches and treats.

Studies have shown that people who struggle with depression, anxiety, and addiction benefit greatly from animal-assisted programs. They can provide a sense of calm, comfort, and/or safety and divert attention away from a stressful situation to a state of pleasure and stillness. Creating a bond with an animal can help people develop a better sense of self-worth and trust, stabilize their emotions, and improve their communication and socialization skills.

Jean Hayes, a licensed animal therapist, and PhD., also provides assisted therapy with an array of farm animals which include horses, donkeys, llamas, baby goats, chickens, and rabbits right here in Marin County, CA!
